Robert Sheckley, the science fiction great whose comic sense of the universe is nothing less than sublime, took seriously ill while attending a science fiction convention in Kiev. His condition has since improved and he has been transferred to a stateside hospital, but funds are required to cover the costs of the hospitalization and his convalesence. Details are at his Website: www.sheckley.com.

If you never read anything by Robert Sheckley, blogger Zed Lopez has compiled a list of online texts. If you read them, maybe you will see why Robert Sheckley is one of my heros, and why I hope that each of you will do what they can to help him.

M.P.: Please don't feel yourself under pressure. I'm happy when you stop by every now and then to say hello. It's probably not healthy to read my stuff every day. ;-)

Car Gal: Thank you very much. I hope you'll be back.

I've never heard of Sheckley, based on your recommendation, however, I'll put a book of his in the hopper and make a contribution.

Good man, Inde.

Doug: Thanks for taking time to contribute. Robert Sheckley is one of those special authors who, as far as I'm concerned, always writes gold. He's often mentioned as an obvious influence on Douglas Adams. I found this statement in a chat transcript with Adams:
"I guess that when I was at school I read quite a lot of SF. In fact I can remember starting when I was in the school sanitorium for a few days and found a stack of SF novels. The ones I liked were the obvious classics - Asimov, Clark etc. I'd also like to mention Robert Sheckley, whom many people later pointed out to me. He was doing really wonderfully good SF comedy before I was. And better, I'm afraid. He's brilliant."
