I bought these new building blocks for my son. They're supposed to be educational, challenge the child's imagination, and all. So I was sure they would be good. I left my son alone in his room to play with them and went myself to watch TV. Usually my kid meanders into the living room and joins me on the sofa to watch whatever I'm watching, but after the movie was over I noticed I was alone. "Those blocks must really be good," I thought to myself. Curious as to what he'd made of them, I got up and went to his room. I pulled open the door and stumbled into a whole other universe. Before me at the end of a winding path was a magnificent castle he must have built with the blocks. It looked real. I spied my son down in the valley, dressed like a prince, on a stallion, driving off black knights who were trying to set up a television antenna.

Story #272

This is a repost (and slight rewrite) of a story I posted at Michael's Blogin_Idiot blog. Go there now! There's still time to write a story for his Friday story game.

It's amazing what a little imagination and a good set of blocks can do. Last year I gave a friend's son a set of farm-themed blocks (they were exceedingly cute) and he was quite pleased. His mother pointed out that the box said "for 3 and up" and he had just turned two. I told him he needed to use a fake ID to play with them.

Where did you buy the building blocks from? I want to get them too :D.

I bet you were eager to join the imagination world your son was prince in! :)**

Mushroom's "fake ID" comment was supremely witty.

I knew I remembered this story!

I laughed at this so if I wasn't supposed to slap me I have been tired lately.

We don't have to go search for the same story on another blog, this one is cool enough.
Castles and knignts in a green valley.

Who needs tv with an imagination like that?

Doug: Great comment!

Mush: We've been keeping our kid away from these computer games with the same reasoning. It's for age n. Except by now he's actually reached age n. What do we do?!

Elveshat: I think the blocks were made in an Elf's workshop.

M.P.: We're always playing some kind of imaginary game. But usually he tells me what to play, and then I have to play it.

Jamie: But I changed the ending a little, so you would be rewarded for rereading it. ;-)

AP3: Thanks.

Alice: I'm glad I made you laugh. I'll try that again sometime ;-)

GPV: Thanks you very much. I'm glad you found something here to interest you. I saw your blog and I'm torn between sharing it with everyone else, or keeping it a secret just for me ;-)

M.P.: Where is it? I'm sure Michael knows, as he got it from one of his friends.

Tom&Icy: I don't really watch much TV these days. Just a few series I've either downloaded or are watching via dvd. With all the stories I'm writing I have no time to lie passively in front of the boob tube. Our son actually has these moods where he'd rather play than watch TV. Isn't that unusual?

Hi.. Hope you're enjoying your long weekend! I think this is one of the castles in Muensterland known as "Wasserburgen"! That's a possible subject for my "Blogging auf Deutsch". We shall see! :)
