She lay on the bed, so close and yet as unreachable as one of those images out of a life flashing before one's eyes, perhaps on occasion of attack and devourance by vicious dogs. "I would love to accommodate you," she said, flashing a smile that showcased her wide lips, "if only my dog would let you past." Harvey tried everything. He threw sticks across the room and through the window, hoping the creature would jump out in pursuit. He dropped a cat at the dog's feet; he waved a choice t-bone steak under his noise. But nothing fazed the iron canine gaze drilling into him. Harvey retreated to the safe but non-erotic emptiness of the living room, to consider what to do. His thoughts stepped onto the idea that he and the dog had quite a lot in common. The love of a lady had already formed a bond between them, albeit a bond of rivalry. He would just have to do something about that. The desires swirling in his head lead to inventiveness. He left the house, returning a few hours later with everything he needed. Under the dog's suspicious stare he set it all up. And it worked. While the dog sat captivated by the Lassie DVD playing on the laptop, Harvey was able to stroll past and visit the girl on her bed. He had a wonderful time, as her accommodations were indeed most hospitable. Regrettably, Harvey neglected to set the DVD on continuous cycle. When Lassie ended, he had a very nasty surprise.

Adds another level to the saying... "Man's best-friend"!

Brilliant as always!

Growing in intensity with a subtle hint of comicity. I like it.

My attempt:

"Trifle not with me vixen!" Ralph bellowed in a booming canine voice, "There is no bone here!" Clementine, who had never learned telepathy in after 19 years of living with labradors, smiled lovingly across the quilt"

"She has a nose yet cannot hear! Foul wench, I command you! How long must I wag? How much of your abundant foolishness must I endure? Get thee to the cupboard! And for the all love in your slothful heart, make haste!" And yet she lingered, a foolish expression inspired by the love she saw reflected in Ralphs eyes.

"Gods, I say! Why is it I you vex with lazy servants? My, bone, woman, at once! Shall I scorn thee yet again with my exposed belly, wriggling my contempt for you who were born to await my coming? The bone! The bone! A simple request made to a simpleton! Where is the distraction in that?"

Clementine simply smiled back. The cupboard was bare and had been for some time. Clementine didn't work and didn't shop, preferring to remain at home alone with her beloved Ralph.

Harvey is just not following through, is he? He's had trouble in that past. And truth be told, no one cares if Timmy's in the well after all these years... =) Great story!

Doug: That's more than an attempt. It's a great story.

Livewire: You figured it out. That's the same Harvey as in the prevous stories. He's not that lucky in love.

Goodnight. I'm going to bed now.

Thanks, Indie. Don't let the bed bugs bite.
