Everyone was trying to keep up with the Joneses, and at first, it worked. The Joneses built themselves a spacious garage with air conditioning and a wide screen TV, for that drive-in feeling. And everyone else built one, too. The Joneses added on two extra levels to their home. Everyone else did the same. A steady stream of delivery trucks visited the quiet, suburban street delivering identical appliances to all the homes, to expand into the newly added levels. But when the Joneses constructed their own private Stonehenge in the back yard, the neighbors revolted. Where were they going to find that many slabs of stone when everywhere they looked was plastic? One night they carried off all the slabs and buried them, leaving behind only a few loose pebbles.

Story #231

Note: This is a repost (and slightly rewritten) of the story I contributed at Michael's Blogin Idiot. His Friday tradition is to invite visitors to write a story to a picture he posts. Check by there tomorrow!

I wouldn't want to live in the Jones's neighborhood. Too much pressure!
Stonehenge in their yard, though. That's pretty cool. I would have wanted the Eiffle Tower in mine... oops! I'm trying to keep up with the Joneses.

Good morning Jamie: What time is it in California? It's just after 8 AM here and I'm starting off a day at work. That would make it 11PM? The Kings Island amusement park near Cincinnati has an Eifel tower, but you probably won't meet any romantic Frenchmen if you climb it (I know why you want an Eifel tower, Jamie), but province bumpkins like myself.

Is this suburban Nazca?

Hey, that looks like a Fox and Chicken Matrix! Remember that game in the snow where kids would make circular paths and chase each other? Then when the snow melts, there are the paths and they can play it all summer! Maybe that is what Stonehenge was, where ancient kids played tag around the big stones in a circle. That was a good story theme. We'll have to go to Ask the Alien Guy and see what he thinks about it.

I often do posts or comments late at night just before bed. I don't know the time difference exactly, but I know my mom was just in Germany on her business trip, and I think she said it is about 7 hours later there. So, what you said makes sense.
You start work and we're heading for bed.
It's 3:36 p.m. as I'm posting this.

Doug/ Tom&Icy: You're probably both right.

Jamie: It's 12:40 AM right now. Did your mother bring back lots of marzipan?

Indie: My mom didn't bring back any marzipan. She's got plenty already and tons and tons of almonds: flavored, salted, chocolate covered, etc...
Her company handles some walnuts too, so we are never at a loss for nuts.
We're a pretty nutty family!
She did come home with pnuemonia though, poor thing. She is getting better though.
